What is Calcium Ascorbate?
Calcium Ascorbate is the calcium salt of ascorbic acid and is a common mineral salt.  Being a mineral ascorbate, it is buffered and, therefore, less acidic than ascorbic acid making it gentler on the stomach compared to Ascorbic acid.
Usually, Calcium Ascorbate is recommended for people who have gastrointestinal problems associated with Ascorbic Acid.  Calcium Ascorbate is considered mild and more abdomen friendly.
Calcium Ascorbate is a natural water-soluble vitamin (Vitamin C) which is naturally present in some foods and is available as a dietary supplement.  Found in citrus, other fruits, and in vegetables, vitamin C cannot be produced or stored by humans and must be obtained in the diet.
Vitamin C is important for bones and connective tissues, muscles, and blood vessels.  Vitamin C also helps the body absorb iron, which is needed for red blood cell production.  Calcium Ascorbate is used to treat and prevent vitamin C deficiency.
Calcium Ascorbate is a potent antioxidant agent that functions in fighting bacterial infections, in detoxifying reactions, and in the formation of collagen in fibrous tissue, teeth, bones, connective tissue, skin, and capillaries.
Use & Benefits:
Studies have shown that Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can strengthen your body’s natural defences.  Studies have shown that vitamin C may help lower blood pressure in both those with and without high blood pressure, may help reduce uric acid in the blood and, as a result, protect against gout attacks and help improve the absorption of iron from the diet.
One of the main reasons people take vitamin C supplements is to boost their immunity, as vitamin C is involved in many parts of the immune system.  First, vitamin C helps encourage the production of white blood cells known as lymphocytes and phagocytes, which help protect the body against infection.  Second, vitamin C helps these white blood cells function more effectively while protecting them from damage by potentially harmful molecules, such as free radicals.  Third, vitamin C is an essential part of the skins defence system.  It’s actively transported to the skin, where it can act as an antioxidant and help strengthen the skins barriers.
Calcium Ascorbate can be used as a food additive/antioxidant for vitamin C fortification in food and beverages or be used topically by adding the powder to creams, sun care & after sun products, shampoos, makeup products (e.g. lipsticks) at use levels of 0.2- 10 % total formula.
