Citric Acid Anhydrous Powder, Alkalizing and Food Additive Powder, Unflavoured

What is Citric Acid Anhydrous?

Citric Acid is found naturally in citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruit, lemons and limes.  It’s what gives them their tart, sour taste.

This odourless and colourless compound is produced from lemon juice and because of its acidic, sour-tasting nature, Citric Acid is predominantly used as a flavouring and preserving agent such as soft drinks and lollies / candies.

Citric Acid is an industrial staple in medicines and dietary supplements.  It is also added to medicines to help stabilize and preserve the active ingredients and used to enhance or mask the taste of chewable and syrup-based medications – as well as to enhance absorption.

It’s also used to stabilize or preserve medicines and as a disinfectant against viruses and bacteria.  Citric acid is commercially sold as a general disinfectant and cleaning agent for removing soap scum, hard water stains, lime, and rust.  It’s viewed as a safer alternative to conventional disinfectant and cleaning products, such as chlorine bleach

You should not use Citric Acid if you have ever had an allergic reaction to products containing Citric Acid.

Citric Acid is known for it’s an alkalizing agent properties.  This may aid in digestion, alkaline foods contain higher quantities of alkaline-forming minerals, such as potassium, magnesium, sodium, calcium and iron.  All of these minerals aid in the absorption of nutrients.

Citric Acid can be measured and added to recipes either as an ingredient or as a replacement for other acids like lemon juice or vinegar.  For example, when canning tomatoes, a 1/2 teaspoon of powdered citric acid can be used for every kilo of tomatoes.  The citric acid powder can also be sprinkled over finished recipes such as guacamole or raw fruit such as apples, to maintain colour.

Citric Acid can be used as a cleaning agent.  Just add 1 part of Citric Acid to 10 parts water in a spray bottle for light soap scum and increase the Citric Acid amount to a 1:6 part ratio to increase the potency.  It’s abrasive powers will work to eliminate soap scum while protecting your health and your furnishings.  (Try on a small surface first before continued use)
